Asics Gel-Nimbus 23 & Gel-Nimbus Lite 2 Shoe Review

Our Youtube Review: Gel-Nimbus Lite 2 |  Gel-Nimbus 23

                                                                   General Info

Asics Gel Nimbus 23 | Naperville Running CompanyThe Asics Gel-Nimbus and Nimbus Lite are both higher cushioned run-specialty shoes that this historic brand offers in their line. Both shoes offer a plush, comfortable option for running, walking, or everyday use.

With a newly designed mesh on the upper of the shoes,  proudly made with recycled materials, it is not only more sustainable but also more durable and breathable than past designs.

What’s The Difference?
The upper is essentially identical in both shoes. The difference is in the midsole. As the name “Lite” suggests, the Nimbus Lite 2 is lighter in weight than the Nimbus 23. The cut down in weight partially comes from having less of Asics’s patented “GEL” in the shoe, while also coming from the absence of the “trustic system.” The “trustic system” refers to the firmer piece built into the base of the shoe to provide more structure under the arch. So simply put, the Nimbus Lite 2 is the lighter, more flexible counterpart to the Gel-Nimbus 23, with both options providing a high cushioned, plush ride

If The Shoe Fits…
These models from Asics both provide a premium high cushioned ride mixed with a breathable, durable, and eco-friendly upper. Both can handle daily miles from 5K to marathon training and anything in between. With that said, the Nimbus Lite 2 and Nimbus 23 shine in different ways. The Nimbus Lite 2 provides versatility on the roads, whether you’re looking for an uptempo shoe or a cross training option. In comparison, the trustic system of the Nimbus 23 offers more structure under the arch, sometimes preferred for longer miles or long hours on your feet.

The best way to determine which shoe works best for you is to try them on. We offer both shoes at three of our Naperville Running Company locations.  Stop in anytime or set up an appointment.

The Asics’ Flytefoam, a soft and bouncy foam, from the Nimbus 22 has been made slightly softer in version 23. Also, like previously mentioned, the shoes have a newly designed mesh upper that is made with eco-friendly materials.

Next, the trustic system, positioned right under the arch for support is slightly longer/firmer, improving the arch support over the previous version. Finally, the foam distribution and heel drop in the Nimbus 23 are slightly different between the men’s and women’s styles to accommodate the natural differences in fit and cushioning needs.
What’s New in the Gel-Nimbus Lite 2
First off for the Nimbus Lite 2, the durable, lighter weight, eco-friendly mesh upper was added to the shoe. Second, the foam was made to be lighter and softer than version one. Along with this, the beloved GEL cushioning that Asics offers was added to the heel and forefoot for even more cushioning. The GEL was not found in the first version of the Nimbus Lite.
